Last week, The Vinewood Journal made a public promise: they would publish an exclusive interview with a whistleblower alleging serious misconduct inside Weazel News. They advertised it across channels. They told their readers to mark their calendars. They framed it as the final word on our credibility.
But when Sunday arrived, the Journal didn’t publish a single word.
There was no story. No interview. No correction. No clarification.
At Weazel News, we don’t shy away from criticism. In fact, we welcome it. Every newsroom — including ours — benefits from reflection, growth, and accountability. But accountability requires truth. Feedback helps us improve. Fabrication does not.
What the Journal published in the lead-up to their failed exposé wasn’t feedback — it was a smear. A calculated effort to discredit a competing newsroom through anonymous sources and unsubstantiated claims. And when the moment came to provide evidence, they vanished.
We believe San Andreas deserves better.
Journalism is not about headlines for attention. It’s not about tearing down your peers to elevate yourself. Journalism is about honesty. It’s about investigation, verification, and responsibility to the public. And when a media outlet breaks its own promise — without explanation — it breaks trust.
We didn’t start this. But we won’t ignore it either.
Look, San Andreas has no shortage of problems. A violent syndicate is tearing apart our communities, and people are attacking our public officials. We need to keep our citizens safe, and to do that, they need to be informed. When the people of San Andreas turn on their TVs, they should be presented with real news and opinions, not the news companies attacking each other.
To the readers of San Andreas: thank you for holding all of us — every outlet, every journalist — to a higher standard. We intend to meet it.
