It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Percy Cunningham, born on June 18, 1954, who passed away on March 4th at the age of 70. Percy was a father, grandfather, and a man whose life was marked by hardship, struggle, and loss.
For three long years, Percy was missing, leaving his family, especially his two grandsons, Russel and Jeffery, now 10 years old, in a state of confusion and pain. His disappearance was a time of deep uncertainty for those who loved him. His grandsons, though still young, carried the weight of not knowing whether their grandfather would ever return. Their hope never wavered, and they grew up during those years with a constant, quiet hope that Percy would one day come back.
Percy’s sudden reappearance came under tragic and complicated circumstances. After evading the police in a confrontation that ultimately led to him falling from a crane, Percy attempted to escape into a nearby canal. However, the situation quickly escalated, and in a final attempt to avoid capture, he made a dangerous leap, intending to reach safety. Unfortunately, he struck his head on the dock before falling into the water, sustaining severe injuries. Despite the efforts of the police to rescue him, Percy passed away shortly after from a traumatic brain injury and internal bleeding at the hospital.
While some may have seen Percy’s actions as a desperate attempt to flee, it is clear that his life had been filled with struggle, and his final moments were marked by a man trying to find a way out of a situation that had spiraled beyond his control. His grandsons will grow up with the memory of their grandfather, but the complexity of his life and the pain of his disappearance will remain a part of their story.
Percy Cunningham’s life was a mixture of hardship, escape, and ultimately, tragedy. He leaves behind his grandsons, Russel and Jeffery, who will remember him as they continue to grow, carrying forward the shadow of his absence.
A private memorial service will be held in honor of Percy Cunningham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his family in his memory.
